Blaine Rittinger

Lighting Designer

Blaine Rittinger brings more than 40 years of experience and expertise when it comes to lighting up a stage. A highly accomplished and respected member of the dance community, Blaine has served many of Canada’s leading dance companies in multiple capacities.

His extensive career began as the sound operator for Ballet Ys in Toronto, evolved into stage management with Theatre Ballet of Canada, and became Technical Director/ Stage Manager for Anna Wyman Dance Theatre in Vancouver, British Columbia. Blaine spent 7 years with Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet (RWB) as their Production Stage Manager where he ensured innumerable successful performances worldwide, worked with some of the finest dancers and choreographers, and stage-managed the Company’s diverse repertoire. Moving back to BC to raise a family, Blaine was the Technical Director for North Vancouver’s Centennial Theatre until his retirement in 2014. Blaine continues to freelance, providing invaluable technical guidance for dance companies.

As a Lighting Designer, Blaine was mentored by renowned designer Nick Cernovitch. He has created lighting designs for many of Canada’s most popular choreographers and companies including the RWB, Ballet BC, Kelowna Ballet, and most recently for choreographer Jorden Morris and repertoire under Morris’ direction at Citie Ballet in Edmonton, Canada. Blaine’s motto is to “have fun and enjoy the creative process”. Blaine lives with his wife in Comox BC. Blaine is excited to contribute to this new production of The Great Gatsby for Pittsburgh Ballet Theater.
